The Light of the world cheers us

Abandonment invokes images of frightening, total darkness. There is no glimmer or pinhole of light in that darkness. Except for the faithful saints, this world would be abandoned into depravity, total moral and spiritual darkness.

Jesus comforted and cheered up those who believed in Him, those later called "the saints." He said that those who learn from Him, who are His disciples, are the light and salt of the world. He said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."  What a privilege to be Christ’s light in the world, and to have the savor, like salt that preserves, wherever we are and regardless of circumstances or appearances, regardless of being aware or not of any influence.

Acceptance of Christ by faith works spiritual, godly transformation from within. By the power of God the light moves outward to pierce the darkness. We earnestly desire that God will grace us with an end to blindness of any degree and the gift of new, spiritual ability to carry the light of truth. Those who seek, Jesus said, shall find.

Have you noticed that people obsessed with anything that takes them away from wholeness and from God seem to dive deeper into darkness and to feel worthless unless there is a dramatic change? The kind of change required must be transforming, must renew the mind and heart.

The lasting transformation of body and soul comes through the sovereign will of God, which is that His Son would be the firstborn of the heirs of heaven. His resurrected body, changed and fit for heaven, gives us of the earth a promise of living, completely renewed, for eternity. Christ shed His blood for the sins of the world to buy us eternal freedom.

The sacrificial Lamb of the Cross, Jesus, is the Name above all names, the Name at which every knee shall bow in heaven and on the earth. Jesus Christ could have called down multitudes of angels at any time. He knew that such a call would obstruct the work of redemption for the world. He followed God’s plan and bore the injustice of humankind and the desertion of the faithful disciple at the time of His great struggle to free the world from sin. He understood darkness, for He endured the shame of the Cross. He was innocent, yet was treated cruelly, as if guilty. He spoke not a word against anyone. He resisted not His sacrifice, though He did not welcome it. He obeyed God and He endured the shame of the Cross, Scripture says, "for the joy set before Him." The Suffering Savior is the Light of the world that lights every true light. He suffered for us, this Light of the world. He passed through the darkness of the Cross, death, and the grave. For this world. For you and for me.

How can any believer in Christ be discouraged when having the care, love, and acceptance of Almighty God through the Son, the Savior of the world? God has said that His Spirit witnesses to our spirit that we are the children of God. Jesus said, "Abide in Me and I abide in you." Believers are not abandoned when the darkness falls. There is light through the love of Omnipotent God. Amazing grace, to save wretched sinners, to redeem and make them whole, to share the Light of Life with all who believe!
