The multi-award-winning NoHo Arts Center Ensemble (NoHoAce) is presenting a world premiere play, “The Light Blub,” written by Joshua Ravetch (“One November Yankee”) and directed by Noho Arts Center Artistic Director James J. Mellon. The show performs through Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the NoHo Arts Center, 11136 Magnolia Blvd. (at Lankershim) in North Hollywood.
In this stylized, hilarious, farce, eight marketing executives must create the campaign for the first-ever light bulb that will not burn out. Ambitious, determined, and unscrupulous, this unlikely group of "professionals" launch a campaign that makes this bulb the most successful product in the history of American business. Debuting with a lavish press event at Hoover Dam, the shocking and unintended consequences of "success" unfold in riotous, comical, fast-paced splendor.
Like a verbal concerto, we watch this unlikely orchestra-of-humanity maneuver deftly through the chaotic intersection where "Mad Men" meets "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," ultimately, shedding serious light on the corrupt machinations that produce the marketing of products in America today where everything from toilet paper, to bug spray, to TV news itself is sold to the American consumer in sound-bites and mega-bytes with eye catching graphics and unforgettable slogans.
The cast features: Jon Acosta, Robert Arbogast, Chad Coe, Susan Goodman, Jennifer Hall, Scott Kradolfer, Karesa McElheny, William Rose-Hines, Irene Roseen and John Sofge.
Ravetch is the former artistic director of The Stella Adler Conservatory and Theatre and developed the hit play, “Wishful Drinking” with Carrie Fisher and directed the world-premiere production at The Geffen Playhouse. “Drinking” went on to tour the country ending with a successful run at Studio 54 on Broadway. Ravetch also received a commission from The Geffen Playhouse to co-write and direct, “Step in Time: a Musical Memoir” with stage and screen icon, Dick Van Dyke. The world premiere production debuted at the Geffen Playhouse starring Van Dyke.
“The Light Bulb” performs 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday through Saturday, November 9, 2013. Tickets are $35. Call 818-508-7101 ext. #6 or visit www.nohoartscenter.com.
