This is part one of a series articles that shows what can happen when you deal with pet shops or bad breeders or puppy mills to purchase your new best friend.
They do become your best friend or like a child to many who's children are grown. They provide peace and love for those that live alone or are alone in the world. They are good medicine for the elderly to keep them young and alert and alive.
Here is Jennie's story ,in her own words, of finding these pups in a pet store and what happened. Others will be involved as the story progresses. It may break your heart, for many it did..
"My husband and I had decided that we were ready to get a puppy, and I have always love German Shepherds. I have never had a GSD before Hayley,
I researched the breed and was very excited to be able to play ball at dog beach and take her to all sorts of fun dog friendly places. I had actually asked a few places if they knew of good breeders in the area.
San Diego Pet Food, a local feed store, on Federal Blvd took my number and said that if a breeder came in he would call. It wasn't until I asked at my vet's office that I found out about SoCal. (Southern California German Shepherd Rescue).
I had actually been scouring the animal shelters as well. About 2 months had gone by since asking the feed store and I had filled out an application and was anxiously awaiting to see if I would get an interview through SoCal.
The Owner (of the pet shop) started to call me and say that there were puppies at the store. I told him that I was waiting for a rescue puppy. He was very persistent and kept calling it was probably at least 2 weeks of phone calls, I finally said that I would come look."
