'The Librarians' teaser and premiere date: Humanity's end begins at the library

Remember those "Librarian" movies starring Noah Wyle? In case you missed it, TNT is returning to that world with a new drama series from Electric Entertainment and executive producers Dean Devlin, John Rogers and Marc Roskin. (Those names should be familiar to "Leverage" fans.) On Friday, Aug. 29, TNT released a teaser that just so happens to reveal when it will premiere.

This new teaser for "The Librarians" is short – only 20 seconds – but it does its job. "Humanity's end begins at the library," the voiceover teases as we get a glimpse at the four new members of the team. Then we get a look at Wyle's Flynn Carsen trying to do some filing in the Library. "Tesla's death ray. T, Tesla?" He ponders, but settles on, "D, death ray." The series premieres Dec. 7. (A time slot has not been announced.)

The new TNT series centers on an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library dedicated to protecting the world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around and solving impossible mysteries, fighting supernatural threats and recovering powerful artifacts from around the world. While Flynn has been the Librarian for the past 10 years and gone from "bookworm to dashing swashbuckler," it's time to make it more of a team effort, with John Larroquette' Jenkins overseeing the team. Jenkins is an expert in ancient lore who has been working out of the Library's branch offices for longer than anyone knows.

Rebecca Romijn pays Eve Baird, the highly skilled terrorism agent responsible for protecting the team. Christian Kane is Jake Stone, an Oklahoma oil worker who has an IQ of 190 and an encyclopedic knowledge of art history. Lindy Booth is Cassandra, who has the special gift of auditory and sensory hallucinations linked to memory retrieval (synesthesia). John Kim is Ezekiel Jones, a master of new technologies and aficionado of old classic crimes.

Noah Wyle, Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin will all be recurring in their roles from the films. Matt Frewer is set to recur as the mysterious immortal Dulaque who leads the ancient cult, Serpent Brotherhood.

"The Librarians" premieres Dec. 7 on TNT. Will you be watching?
