It seems as though there is a double standard when it comes to those who choose to exercise their right to peaceably assemble and make their voices heard. The TEA Party Movement was slandered with all kinds of insults for protesting the Obama Administration’s and Democratic Congress’ socialist agenda; pushing unconstitutional legislation through, against the will of the American people. Former Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi even called the TEA Party Protestors, “Astroturf”. Yet, there was not one incident of a TEA Partier becoming violent or trying to promote the use violence to get the group’s point across. As a result, a “red tide” swept through and changed the balance of power.
Many Republicans are now doing what they said they would do during their campaigns; much to the dismay of the left. These newly elected officials are only doing what the majority of people want them to do. Unfortunately, this process has gotten ugly. In particular, our neighbor to the west, Wisconsin, has seen some pretty counterproductive protests. Not to mention, 14 of their state senators fleeing the state in order to avoid voting. The protestors did thousands of dollars in damage to the capital building and even disgraced a veterans’ memorial inside the building; showing a total lack of respect to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom:
Protestors were even bused in from other states to help the Wisconsin left in voicing their anger. High profile liberals, such as Michael Moore, came to give a hand. Shouts of “Shame, shame, shame!” echoed through the halls of the capital, while state legislators tried to conduct business.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGDp581g9t0&feature=related
Lately, there have been many protests throughout the Midwest, to include protests in Michigan. Everyone has the right to peaceably assemble and protest what they feel is an injustice. But, if the TEA Party People had behaved the same as the Pro-Union protestors, what are the chances it would be all over the liberal mainstream media? The TEA Party would have been shutdown for sure.
The American people must look at peaceful resistance as the answer. Our elected officials need to object to any kind of violent act, no matter what the issue is, whether they agree with the issue or not. Wasn’t it President Obama that said we need to return to “civility”? Why does that only apply to conservatives? There is a double standard.
