“The Lego Movie” wins the weekend again

Despite several new movies opening the weekend of Valentine’s Day, it was The Lego Movie that won the weekend again. It was the 1980s all over again this past weekend. Three of the movies that opened this weekend (Endless Love, RoboCop, About Last Night) were remakes of 80s films. The one that ended up doing the best was About Last Night, which came in second.

With About Last Night ending up in second place, that made the weekend a huge hit for fans of comedian Kevin Hart. Hart’s other hit, Ride Along, was also in the top ten after spending weeks in the top spot. Hart is having an outstanding start to 2014.

Surprisingly, RoboCop, despite many negative reviews, came in third place. The other new movie, Endless Love, perhaps propelled by the need to see a romantic movie over the weekend, came in fifth place. The romantic fantasy movie, Winter’s Tale, despite getting some truly scathing reviews, managed to come in 7 in the top ten.

Still in the top ten is the Disney juggernaut, Frozen. The movie has ventured into new territory for Disney and already become one of their most profitable animated movies. There are some areas that now have a sing-along version available since the soundtrack has also become a monster hit.

Here are the top 10 movies for the Valentine’s Day weekend. The amounts are in millions of dollars:
