"The Lego Movie Videogame" debuted at the top of the UK sales charts, released early Monday morning. The big time debut knocked "FIFA 14" out of the number one spot after it had a run there that hadn't been seen in the video game world in quite some time. A resurgence in popularity of "Call of Duty: Ghosts" as well as the debut of "Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII" knocked the professional soccer game all the way to fourth on the charts.
It's hard to know whether or not Lego realized just how popular a franchise it had going for it in the video game world when it started putting its name to all of these games. "The Lego Movie Videogame" is now the third game of its kind in the top 20.
Other games that managed to gain a little bit of a resurgence this week were "Grand Theft Auto V" and "Assassin's Creed IV." Both titles moved up a bit in the rankings. GTA5 moved from 6th to 5th and ACIV moved from 10th to 8th. The biggest drop on the charts weresuffered by "Fable: Anniversary" and "Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition."
"Fable" fell from 3rd to 10th and "Tomb Raider" dropped from 4th to 11th. Those kinds of drops generally don't bode well for games in the coming weeks. The best rise for a game that had already been on the charts belongs to the much maligned "Aliens: Colonial Marines." Despite being a game that everyone loves to hate, the title went from 17th to 14th in this weekend's rankings.
As for "The Lego Movie Videogame," there's no telling how long it will hold the top spot. The fact that the movie itself is quite popular means it could get some serious momentum.
