The Legend Of Luke By Brian Jacques A novel of Redwall

The Legend of Luke is a wonderful story of courage, friendship and love. This book is one of 3 prequels to Brian Jacques Novel Redwall. The book begins after the events that take place in the book Mossflower. The woodland animals have finally achieved peace and have now started construction on Redwall Abbey a place where all peaceful creatures can have a home.

The book starts out with a young Hedgehog maid who calls herself Trimp the Rover strolling through Mossflower woods hoping to find food be she has run out of supplies. Along the path she meets Fedy and Cogs two hedgehog males pulling a log. They tell her that if she helps them with the log that she can accompany them to Redwall for food. She readily agrees and helps them get the log to the abbey. After getting it inside the gates, Ferdy and Coggs introduce her to Abbess Germaine and Martin who is warrior, after introductions have been made everyone sits down to lunch. After lunch the creatures of Redwall ask Trimp to help them lift a beam for the roof of the abbey.

They also ask her to sing a haling shanty so as to have a rhythm going as they pull. The shanty the Trimp sings mentions some names that are familiar to Martin the names of his father Luke and his father’s ship Sayna who was Martin’s mother. After the work is done Martin asks Trimp if she knows any more about the people mentioned in the song.

She tells Martin that she does not, much to his disappointment. After seeing that this has affected Martin the creatures of Redwall decide to send Martin on a trip to the Northland Coast where he was born to finally find out what happened to his father. As the story continues readers will follow Martin and his companions on their journey to the coast. Then they will follow Luke’s journey to avenge his family and friends by tracking down the villainous Pirate Vulu Daskar. Then the story will conclude with Martins journey home. So grab this book and get ready to dive into the courageous tale of the Legend Of Luke.
