The Legal Lexicon of Y2K

It has been almost a decade since the presidential election of Y2K.  Do you remember how close that election was?  Do you remember the controversy?  Do you remember the history, tragedy, victory, and comedy that played out on the Florida political stage?

Here is something of a tribute in verse to our republic that withstood all manner of controversy played out in our courts.  Hopefully, you may find education, entertainment, and enjoyment in this short expose.

 Y2K Election Lexicon

The law is rooted in Stare Decisis--

Follow what went before and proceed without crisis.

When fighting history, ask for De Novo--

Let not what went before restrict where you will go.

A matter in Exigency or Exigence--

Is an urgent matter arising suddenly from the circumstance.

When separate statutes must be read Pari Materia--

Together they should clear up most of the gray area.

Opinions beginning with Per Curiam--

Of the Court and for all, but written oft by just one of them.

If it was ordered but not requested, then it's Sua Sponte--

Without prompting.  A sign that the court could be a run away.

One remedy oft sought is called Mandamus--

We Command!  To put back in their place those who would be infamous.

Our land's highest court grants Certiorari--

To make certain that the previous court told the right story.

If you want something to halt, then ask for Estoppel--

To stop deed or allegation or what one might tell.

You heard it now many times that the vote it does Enfranchise--

To join the body politic--to work from on the inside.

What do you call a guy with degrees in Political Science and Biblical Studies? What do you call someone that served as a Marine Officer for over 20 years and now pastors a church?  What do you call someone with this unique perspective of the kingdom of the world and the kingdom of God? Most folks just call me Tom.
