“The Ledge” movie compliments Christianity

The latest in a long line of underhanded or, backhanded or, unintended compliments of Christianity comes in the form of the movie “The Ledge.”

The Internet Movie Database described the plot thusly:

A thriller in which a battle of philosophies between a fundamentalist Christian and an atheist escalates into a lethal battle of wills.

Ultimately, as a test of faith, or lack of it, the believer forces the non-believer onto the ledge of a tall building.

He then has one hour to make a choice between his own life and someone else's.

Without faith in an afterlife, will he be capable of such a sacrifice?

By the way, no, fundamentalist does not mean that he is concerned with the basics, the fundamentals of the Christian faith but rather that he is a stuck up, domineering jerk. This movie was directed by the activist atheist Matthew Chapman who stated “My hope was to make an emotional appeal.” Indeed, what else does he have with which to work?

Yet, do no be fooled by the “Oh, it’s just a movie” dismissal. Matthew Chapman made this movie as a propaganda and proselytization tool, “I hope atheists who are still in the closet will take heart from the film and think. I am not alone.” The fact is that, for example, atheist activists such as Sam Harris have admitted to waging an under the table, behind the scenes pro-atheism and anti-theism media-campaign. This tactic works best when people pull the “Oh, it’s just a movie” line.

Also, by the way: the battle of philosophies comes about due to the fundamentalist’s wife having an affair with the atheist. In which case, by the way, she is violating the very principles upon which her Christianity is based while the atheist is violating nothing at all.

So, how is this an underhanded / backhanded / unintended compliments of Christianity? You will notice that it was not a story about a Jewish fundamentalist or, a Muslim fundamentalist or, a Hindu fundamentalist or any other religion except the one and only one that is still politically correct be besmirch in “polite” company, in all media forms and in pop-culture in general—Christianity.

Hollywood know that they are not risking death, not risking riots, not risking anything but having Christians say, “I will not watch it” or, “I will pray for you” and the risk of making so much money that they will have difficultly counting it.

You are welcome.
