The law of sin and death separates us from God (Photos)

Romas 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Sin and death are partners bound tightly by their own law. That "law" is that sin and death are inseparable. The kind of death spoken of here is the eternal separation from God, the creator, with the destination of hell for its wages or reward.

Sin entered into the world by way of the sin of Adam (Romans 5:12) thus entering into and infecting the entire human race. Jeremiah 17: 9 says "the (human) heart is deceitful above all things, and desparately wicked: who can know it?" No one can escape this law spoken about in the Word on his own. Every human being is subject to this law no matter how "good" a life they live, no matter how many "good" deeds they perform, nor how much money they give away to charitable causes or time spent in a church. Romans 3:23, For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus sets us free from the sentence of eternal separation unto hell. The Spirit is the Holy Spirit of God; the third person of the Holy Trinity. In God's Spirit is life; to be in His eternal presence. Accepting the position of our own degenerate condition is the prerequisite for being able to look to the One who set us free from the power of the law of sin and death. To accept Christ is to accept and embrace what He did on the cross. Sin had to be paid for by the shedding of innocent (no sin) blood.

Death through Adam; Life through Christ

Death through Adam is the separation of all of man from the presence of God. In Genesis God drove man and woman from the garden not only because of their sin but also to keep them from partaking of the tree of life in their fallen state (Genesis 3: 22-24). The tree of life represented the eternal life that man could one day have from Christ but only in the fullness of time and by Jesus' own sacrificial payment for the sins of all of mankind.

So, there are basically two laws concerning heaven or hell.

  • The law of sin and death that is upon all men by being born into the human race.
  • The law of the Spirit of life that is given when a man accepts Christ sacrifice upon the cross.

Blessed and great is Holy God for all that he did to redeem his created beings from the sting of eternal death; separation from Him. Heaven actually begins on earth when we receive Christ into our hearts and begin to follow after the ways of His Holy Spirit.
