In the rush to get the story, any story out about the shooting at the Delaware Valley Charter High School Jan 17 2014 , most of the media got the story wrong. They first reported two students were shot and that police had their man in South Philadelphia. They were looking for the gun. It was not entirely the fault of the media, they were going on details provided to police from school employees.
The result was a 15 year old suspect was questioned. Within a few hours in police custody, it was determined that "School officials had provided inaccurate information to police concerning this young man, and he absolutely did not have any involvement in this incident and he was released and completely cleared by investigators", said Philadelphia Police spokesperson Lt. John Stafford.
The shooting which happened in the school gym was caught on camera. From that evidence, police were able to determine that two students were involved. They quickly went to the houses where they lived and secured them. One on the 5600 block of North Sydenham street, the other on the 7400 block of Rugby Street. Suspect # 1 turned himself in to detectives shortly afterwards.
