Last night on “The Last Ship” following the rescue of the captain and the destruction of the Russians, Dr. Scott had now the obligation of creating a vaccine using the blood of the girl rescued from a boat in which all others died from the virus except her; meaning she has the antibodies necessary to combat the illness.

And then it was time to test the vaccine and six volunteers were needed, although fiction, this story poses questions that hopefully no one will need to answer at any time: but what if such tragedy took place? Also, there was a glimpse of Captain Chandler’s family who appear to be well for the time being, together with Chandler Sr. in some remote location on the mainland. Several members of the crew volunteered to be the first to try out the vaccine, but only six were needed. And they tell parts of their lives that before had not been revealed and the female lieutenant who was dating another lieutenant on the ship being one of the volunteers suffers the worst reaction, her boyfriend is informed along with the news that she is pregnant. They all are tested with Patrice’s blood, the lone survivor on the fishing boat, and this causes a horrible reaction, but then Dr. Scott creates a type of Trojan Horse along with the vaccine and voila all recover except for one who suffered a heart attack.

The human factor is heartbreaking and the storyline is fascinating, the struggle, the discipline, the dedication of these individuals to produce a cure that could save the entire planet. It is one of the greatest and most original stories told in recent times, finally Captain Chandler confronts Dr. Scott and asks if they have found a vaccine, and the Dr. replies that not only a vaccine, but the cure for those already infected has been created.
