After it was announced that Screen Gems will be making a movie based upon Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic epic, The Last of Us, it was unknown if the feature film would involve characters from the game or merely exist within the same universe. However, speaking to IGN on March 13, The Last of Us Creative Director Neil Druckmann confirmed that the upcoming movie will indeed by a direct adaptation of the game and will thus feature the same story that players experienced within the game.
After securing multiple game-of-the-year wins for 2013, The Last of Us has often been heralded as the Playstation 3’s best title to date. Naughty Dog revisited the setting in The Last of Us: Left Behind which marked the developer’s first ever single-player DLC pack. The add-on served as a prequel story to Ellie’s adventure with Joel in the game’s primary campaign. Left Behind followed Ellie and her best friend as the teenage girls explored the ruins of the game’s apocalyptic world.
The Last of Us is out now exclusively on the PS3. The game has also been confirmed to be one of the first titles available through Sony’s streaming service, Playstation Now, later this year which will allow gamers to stream games via a variety of internet-connected devices. The movie adaptation of The Last of Us is also in good hands as Druckmann will also write the film’s screenplay.
