Independent film fans are certain to be familiar with the work of actor Michael Madsen and those in Las Vegas will have the chance to see him presented with the “Indie Icon” award during the Las Vegas Film Festival at the Hilton Hotel on July 16that 4:15pm. Starring in over 170 films including “Kill Bill”, “Donnie Brasco” and “Sin City”, Michael is perhaps best known for playing the sadistic ex-con and jewel thief “Mr. Blonde" in Quentin Tarantino’s bloody cult classic “Reservoir Dogs”. Since then he has portrayed a number of rough, rugged characters in both studio and independent films. He has also been seen in a few television seriesl including a guest starring role during the final season of “24” in April of 2010. As for the future, Madsen is expected to reprise the role of Bob in “Sin City 2”, which is currently in pre-production and has a 2012 release date set.
A special screening of Michael’s 2008 crime drama “Vice”, which was directed by Raul Inglis and also starred Mykelti Williamson, Justine Warrington, Mark Boone Junior and Darryl Hannah will be shown prior to the presentation of the award and an audience Q&A. The film is about a botched undercover operation resulting in missing drugs and murdered cops. Madsen’s friend actor/director Ash Adams will act as moderator for the intimate Q&A conversation following the celebrity tribute. Adams, who won the Best Feature award last year at the Las Vegas Film Festival for his film “Once Fallen”, has worked with Madsen on such projects as the acclaimed true-life documentary “The Distance” and proudly explained that he recommended Michael for the award and is honored to be involved in his friend’s tribute. Adams will also be in attendance at the festival promoting his short “Peter’s Hope”, which is scheduled to be screened later that night at 8:40pm.
After the event Madsen will be in the Tempo Lounge at the Hilton for a book signing hosted by Barnes and Noble from 7:00pm to 8:45pm promoting his latest work. Madsen has been writing poetry for over 10 years and had his first book published in 2005 called “The Complete Poetic Works of Michael Madsen, Vol 1: 1995-2005 by 13 Hands Publications. An international success, the book is the only authorized compilation of Madsen’s poetry. One of his later efforts “American Badass” was released on his birthday, September 25 in 2009 and was dedicated to the memory of his friend and “Kill Bill” co-star David Carradine.
