Milwaukee's Summerfest is now in full throttle and running hot on the Fourth of July. The music has been playing since June 25th and doesn't stop until July 6th. Herb Fellerer, one of the staff photographers for Mardi Gras Memories and The Weird Review, has been bragging about The Summerfest for a few years and claiming it to be the largest Music Festival in the world.

As a veteran of event coverage including Mardi Gras, it was intriguing to hear about this event that even blew away New Orleans' French Quarter Festival and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. The French Quarter Festival boasts over half a million in attendance but Summerfest says they have close to 900,000 in attendance. What draws so many people to Milwaukee? Eleven days of music on 11 stages with over 800 acts and over 1,000 performances.

The lineup includes some of the hottest of the hot with Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, Dave Matthews Band, Usher, Brad Paisley, Delta Rae, and even Trombone Shorty up from New Orleans! The list of awesome goes on but there is such an eclectic lineup that there is something for everyone and a whole lot of each.

Summerfest tweeted the exciting bit of information that, tonight at 8 p.m. is a classic favorite, Harvey Scales, at the BMO Harris Pavilion. If it is not too late to get in, tomorrow we will have some photos from that concert for you. For those who are unaware, Harvey is the co-author of the first single to go Platinum and is known as Milwaukee's Godfather of Soul. He was also performing for various parties in the Madison/Milwaukee for the college crowd and was a strong influence on students who later created "The Blues Brothers" and "Animal House." He did an interview with The Weird Review a couple years back and, needless to say, Harvey Scales and The Seven Sounds are awesome!

Summerfest also has set aside 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. every day for emerging artist. Hot, new bands will perform and the audience can use their cell phones to vote for who will win the "Emerging Artists Series Care Package" - top music products from major manufacturers that will help the band rock on!

Summerfest isn't just music, with food and fun for the whole family. Kohl's has their Captivation Station where kids can make art with the good folks from the Milwaukee Art Museum, create hands on projects with the folks from Discovery World, see the animal show by the Milwaukee County Zoo and the Zoological Society of Milwaukee. There are also paddle boats, a giant ferris wheel, the School of Rock, robots, mascots, and much, much more!

So if you are in the Milwaukee area, head down to Summerfest. If not, why not?
