"The Laramie Project: 10years later" is the next installment in the Annie Russel Theatre's season. This theatre, located in Rollins College, has historic roots in Winter Park, recently reaching it's 80th anniversary last year. Since 2005 the theater has been steadily moving along, performing no less than 4 plays a year; there have been titles ranging from "A midsummer Night's Dream", "Equus", and "The Miss Firecracker Contest" just to name a few.
The original "The Laramie Project" was written by Moisés Kaufman, Leigh Fondakowski, Greg Pierotti, Andy Paris & Stephen Belbert. Combining elements of documentary and drama, this ensemble play boasts more than 60 characters appearing in short scenes; these are based on interviews done on the Laramie residents who were affected by the tragic killing of Matthew Sheperd, a student in Laramie . The underlying themes of fighting against homophobia and all prejudice in our nation runs thick through this piece, making it a valuable learning tool in the U.S. and abroad when teaching about tolearance and equality.
Opening night tickets are $25 and all other shows are $20.
