Luxury travel is typically defined by an uncompromised quality of service, or perhaps by exceptional culinary experiences. It often refers to the beauty of the locale and the proximity to its best features, or to the comfort and amenities. When a luxury travel destination seamlessly incorporates all of these elements—and more—it’s truly a winner. And that’s where The Landings St. Lucia comes in.
Located on the most perfect, serene beach on this Caribbean gem of an island, the location is a good as it gets—and the views from all areas of the resort take full advantage of it. The accommodations of the all-suite property are sprawling, uber-luxe, elegant, and the epitome of comfortable. The food and wine offerings are beyond excellent, and the service is indeed uncompromised, to say the least.
And then there’s that other, hard-to-define factor that makes it truly unique—that perfect blend of something special that makes guests feel, well, special, and feel truly away from it all.
As an all-suite property, The Landings is perfect for families in need of space and easy living. Each of the one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites features a fully equipped (and high-end) kitchen, private washers and dryers, a massive living area, and large bathrooms, including en-suite master baths. The five 2,300-square-foot penthouse suites are truly some of the nicest in all of the Caribbean.
The huge balconies overlooking either the ocean or the resort’s private harbor are the perfect spot to relax in your private plunge pool and sip on champagne (something I took full advantage of!) while contemplating nothing more than how at-ease you feel. And no matter how full the resort, it never feels crowded or loud.
By my second day of luxury living at The Landings, I was almost convinced that I was the proud owner of my very own resplendent St. Lucian villa.
The Food and Drinks
From the dangerously good rum punch that’s handed to you the moment you arrive, to the Caribbean jerk chicken and grilled fresh mahi mahi at the The Beach Club (situated on the harbor and directly in front of the beach) to the entire five-star experience at The Palms Restaurant, there isn't a moment you’ll go hungry, thirsty, or not completely pampered and satisfied.
If you take food seriously, you’re in luck—so do they. It’s all about local produce, seafood, and flavors, and the best of it. Should you prefer casual and wind-in-your-hair dining over elegant and refined, they've got that—and the opposite as well.
Friday nights are a true highlight, when a talented musician serenades locals and guests at the Beach Bar as they sip on wine and cocktails, while kids safely enjoy crab races on the beach; it seems to be where everyone gathers for Friday night fun (before heading to Gros Islet). Come Sunday, guests and locals come together again for the island’s best (and most abundant) brunch, again accompanied by live music and complete with exceptionally good food.
What’s your luxury Caribbean “home” without tennis, swimming pools, spa services, and a world-class marina? The Landings has all of the above—three swimming pools, actually, and a tennis club with an on-site pro for group or private lessons.
The full-service Soleil Spa has perfected the art of pampering (my massage was heavenly), and is a retreat within a retreat, where sea breezes gently blow through the curtains and solidify your desire to never leave. You can also work off all of the decadent meals in their 24/7 health club, or simply wander around the fragrant, flower-filled grounds for some exercise.
If golf is your game, the resort will provide complimentary transportation to the nearby St. Lucia Golf and Country Club, and while mom and dad are enjoying the ocean-view fairways, the kids can enjoy the daily services and activities of The Landing’s Kid’s Club. There’s literally something for everyone.
St. Lucia is an island to explore and enjoy, and the staff at The Landings knows that—in fact, they encourage it. It’s one of the most naturally beautiful islands I’ve ever seen, with banana plantations, rainforests, rolling hills, and hiking trails aplenty.
The island is home to 19,000 acres of rare bird- and rare plant-filled paradise, and of course, the iconic Piton Mountains. The resort will happily offer advice and set up island tours and excursions, including SCUBA, snorkeling, deep sea fishing, ziplining, and horseback riding adventures.
Come sunset, there’s as much to do outside of the resort as there is within it, and on Friday nights, after appetizers and cocktails at The Landings’ Beach Club, you must head out to Gros Islet (five minutes away) for the weekly street party, where tourists and locals alike gather for fantastic local food, Piton beers and rum punch, and dancing in the street. It’s one of the best parties in the Caribbean—or anywhere, for that matter.
It’s truly rare to find a piece of paradise that caters so perfectly to honeymooners seeking romance, families seeking fun and comfort, adventurers seeking luxurious excitement, and all in between. The Landings is where every type of traveler with a taste for the best finds expectations exceeded and total escape made easy.
