Much of the rest of the world, when thinking about New Orleans and its food, will tend to focus around gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice. But one of the 'food groups' that really should be added to that list is New Orleans sweets.
With King Cakes alone, the New Orleans area creates thousands upon thousands of versions of the Carnival Season staple with varied ingredients and a vast plethora of toppings and decorations. Yet, even aside the King Cakes and the visitor's favorite- beignets - crowned with generous heaps of powdered sugars, there is still a myriad of goodies available to satisfy this city's collective sweet-tooth.
And one of the places to get your sugar on in the Big Easy is The Kupcake Factory.
Owned by local sisters, Claudia and Victoria Melgar, The Kupcake Factory was a brainchild of, and integral element of, Post-Katrina Resurgence. With locations in the French Quarter, Uptown, Kenner, and Metairie, The Kupcake Factory creates more than 30 original cupcake flavors daily, all made from scratch.
“We took a leap of faith six years ago when we opened The Kupcake Factory and being able to celebrate this milestone is an incredible feeling,” explains Claudia Melgar in a press release, “We are so thankful for the immense amount of support and loyalty we've received from the New Orleans communities over the years and look forward to being around for many more.”
Now, in honor of their sixth birthday, The Kupcake Factory is hosting an anniversary celebration! This Saturday, March 8, come out to one of The Kupcake Factory's four locations as they'll be showing their appreciation to loyal customers by offering a couple of fun deals. To begin with, the lucky sixth customer at each store will receive a free $6 gift card, and then any patron who purchases five cupcakes that day will receive a sixth cupcake for free as well.
What better way to celebrate the anniversary of The Kupcake Factory then with some mouth-watering New Orleans cupcakes?
