Look out Ybor City, the The Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago are getting ready to invade Saturday night! The Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago and several other Tampa Bay area krews are gearing up to party like knights and pirates as they make their way down 7th Avenue. Last year the 2012 Knight Parade drew an estimated 110,000 revelers to Ybor City to see the illuminated floats and catch beads. Over 65 krews participate in this parade. Proceeds from The Knight Parade benefit The Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago’s Education Foundation. The Education Foundation is a 501 (3) organization that endows scholarships for Florida Colleges and Universities. Since its founding in 1994, The Education Foundation has contributed over $1,000,000 in scholarship funds to local students. The mission is “to provides safe passage for our modern day students just as The Knights of Sant’ Yago provided safe passage for pilgrims from Spain in the 14000’s”. The Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago also sponsors an annual bowling tournament the week prior to the Knight Parade, hosted by another Knight Parade sponsor, Pin Chasers located on 4847 Armenia Avenue. Members from several different krews participate, with the proceeds benefiting The Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago’s Education Foundation.
