The second parade in the festive Carnival season leading up to Mardi Gras is The Krewe of Mona Lisa and Moonpie. Like the Krewe of Bilge boat parade, it will also be held in Slidell on February 15, 2014, starting at 6 p.m.
Started in 1984, the Krewe of Mona Lisa and Moonpie is the original walking parade in the original walking parade. This year, they are celebrating thirty years with the theme "Mona's Magical History Tour". The krewe prides itself on celebrating and promoting the arts and good humor. This is apparent during their parade with live jazz and brass bands marching along parade participants wearing handmade costumes. Their signature throw is a moon pie.
Why not stay in Slidell and see both of the parades? It will be a great way to see the Carnival season kicking off in 2014. Make sure to get a good spot on the route on the parade route for the Krewe of Mona Lisa and Moonpie parade.
