Mark Elliott of Topeka, Kan. shot a one under par 71 in the final round of the KGA Kansas Senior Championship. The championship began on Wednesday Sept. 18 and concluded on Thursday Sept. 19 at the Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence, Kan.
Elliott tied his opening round and moved from the number two spot to finish in first place in the 50 to 64 age group gross scoring. He posted birdies on holes three, 11, 12 and 15. Bogeys on two, nine and 14 led to the one under finish and a total of 142 for the championship.
Second place went to Bob Hartmann of Shawnee, Kan., the overnight leader from round one, who finished at five over par 149. Bob Bezek of Ottawa, Kan. was one stroke back at 150 for third place. Council Grove, Kan. resident Tim Tyner finished at eight over par 152 for fourth place. Fifth place went to Peter Robbins of Olathe, Kan. at nine over par 153.
In the 50 to 64 age group net scoring Wes Owens of Dodge City, Kan. and Mike Naegele of Lee’s Summit, Mo. finished in a tie for first place with adjusted scores of two under par 142. Third place went to Don Noller of Marion, Kan. on stroke back of Owens and Naegele. Pat Goeke of Paola, Kan. finished with an adjusted score of even par for fourth and Fran Ferns of Leawood, Kan. finished in fifth at two over par.
In the 65 and over age group gross scoring Ron Brewer of Leawood, Kan., the overnight leader, finished in first place with a total of four over par 148 for the two days. Brewer was one under par after round one and shot two birdies in round two. Bogeys on six, eight, 10, 13, 14, 17 and 18 led to the plus four finish.
Fred Rowland of Leawood, Kan. finished at seven over par 151 to take second place. Third place went to Kent Reynolds of Overland Park, Kan. with a nine over par 153. At 12 over par Duane Creekmore of Wichita, Kan. finished in fourth and one stroke back was Wichita, Kan. resident Bill Quattlebaum in fifth.
Brewer held on to first place in the net scoring with an adjusted score of 140 for the two days. Joe Wallingford of Topeka, Kan. and Jerry Roberts of Olathe, Kan. finished in second only one stroke back of Brewer at 141. Fourth place resulted in a tie between Reynolds and Fred Neuer of Shawnee, Kan. with adjusted scores of 143.
The Senior Series Championship concluded play for the 2013 season for the KGA Kansas Senior Series.
