As reported this past summer, a remake of The Karate Kid is in production and is set for a June 11, 2010 release. Early reports had this remake titled Kung Fu Kid, which would have made more sense considering how different it will be from the original. However, now it looks like it will keep the same title, The Karate Kid, and try to be a true remake. This is most likely sad news for fans of the original, because from this point forward they will have to share this name with what looks to be a BAD IDEA for a remake.
This time around we have Jackie Chan as the Karate master and Jaden Smith as the apprentice? Ok, Hollywood, let's get this straight: you're giving us The Karate Kid minus Pat Morita, Ralph Macchio, and obviously without the sweet 1948 Ford Super Deluxe (one has to assume the car will not be in the movie since Jaden Smith is years away from being old enough to drive it!).
Jackie Chan may be great at what he does, and entertaining in movies, but this has got "BAD IDEA" written all over it. What are your thoughts? Is there any possible way this could turn out to be a good remake? Sound off fans, comments section is yours.

I agree with you - BAD idea. This movie might be okay as a stand alone, but not as a remake of The Karate Kid--some classics just shouldn't be redone. Then again The Karate Kid III shouldn't have been made either...
I think this is a great idea. When a popular movie is remade it is done for the population. As much as we love nostalgia and hot rods, this movie is going to have to appeal to the NEW (karate) kids of 2010. That is the only way it will even come close to the success of it's forerunner.
Chan is the King of American Kung Fu.
Smith is DANG-ON adorable. (The last line of the trailer is classic Will Smith)
This movie will be great, I'm sure.
