Another year lies just over the horizon and with it's coming comes the close of this past year where too many tears were shed. Hasta la vista 2013! It seems that with the passing of each year and at this time almost everyone reflects on the events of the past. Events that have had a very profound effect on one's life. Whether positively or negatively each episode has had it's share of memorable experiences, then again maybe not so memorable. In either case many have come to terms with the events that have dictated the direction one chooses to take.
In a world that is constantly changing whether we want it to or not their is always an inexplicable number of instances that affect those decisions we all make. For the powers that be who control the destiny of nations the decisions made many of which adversely altered the course of so many lives. Decisions for more power, control, and wealth have always dominated the governess of too many nations. The United States for the past few decades have led the way. A corruption in the political process has manifested the juggernaut of political expediency to the point that a country founded on deep rooted principles has now morphed into a self serving bureaucracy.
When we really take a long hard look at the landscape of America today we see the aftermath of so many misguided ill attempts at solving the crisis of our times. Many of those decisions have inadvertently caused global extinction of too many animal species. Decisions made have only further polluted our water from sea to shining sea. The decisions made have only increased the depth and scope of famine and poverty not only here in the United States but all over the world. It was also just this past year where decisions that weren't made only exasperated the growing deluge of so much sorrow, woe and misery.
What a year 2013 has been. The times they really are a changing. But for many who have seen first hand so much wonton disregard for the sanctity of life here and abroad the decisions made have only accelerated the outcomes. The senseless shootings of innocent children, the pointless slaughter and mayhem on city streets, the callous ignorance and arrogance toward those in need all have set the tone for yet another insane year ahead.
Like a kaleidoscope the images of the past keep flashing before us now. It is those images of the outcome of the decisions that were made all directly affected the decisions others had to make. But, all too often as we have seen the powers that be who we have entrusted to make those decisions that affect everyone's life have all too often ignored the cries of the poor, the destitute, the sick and the hungry. Today's realm of reality is a far cry from the jubilation and exhilaration that so many baby boomers experienced especially at this time of the year back fifty years ago. The turn of events of the past in just 2013 alone have had far reaching consequences. It is these consequences that are already shaping the decisions to be made for yet another turbulent, tumultuous and devastating 2014.
It is those images of 2013 where horrific crimes against humanity and the onslaught of catastrophic natural disasters played out that are constant reminders that decisions made over the years have made the world more volatile. A world where at any given moment disaster will strike again. The powers that be in Washington have only exasperated the dire conditions millions live in with the decisions that have been made. When we look at the kaleidoscope of images passing through our minds in reflection of just this past year we continue to see the terrible consequences of decisions made and the after effects when the decisions that could have made a difference were not made. We can do more than just hope that next year at this time the kaleidoscope of images being played out in reflection show that the decisions made this coming year have actually made a difference in the lives of so many.
