The first day of the Pasadena Strawberry Festival kicked off with carnival rides, the world’s largest strawberry short cake and music for the patrons attending the annual festival on the grounds of the Pasadena Fairgrounds located in the Houston suburb of Pasadena, Texas on Friday, May 16, 2014.

Headlining the night’s music entertainment on the stage inside the rodeo arena was The Josh Abbott Band.

Country music fans, both young and old, swayed, danced and sang along to the songs of the country sextet from Texas.

Consisting of Josh Abbott (vocals, guitar), Austin Davis (banjo), Preston Wait (fiddle, guitar), Edward Villanueva (drums), James Hertless (bass guitar) and Caleb Keeter (guitar), the band played their hits and favorites to close out the day’s activities.

Performing songs from their three albums, the crowd standing on the dirt of the rodeo arena in front of the stage and those sitting in the stands, were very vocal and appreciative of the band’s performance.

Brenda Murphy, a local country music fan from La Porte, Texas, who was attending the Strawberry Festival for the fifth time stated:

“You can’t get any better than this. A great group like The Josh Abbott Band here in Pasadena. You would have to be a fool to like country music and not come to hear them.”

The band entertained the crowd, estimated to be in excess of 5,000, with such songs as their 2013 hit “She Will Be Free,” in addition to “I’ll Sing About Mine” and “Touch.”

The Pasadena Strawberry Festival will continue on Saturday, May 17 with Easton Corbin headlining the evening’s entertainment.

The 2010 American Country Awards Breakthrough Artist of the Year will take the stage at 10:30 p.m.
