Jon and Kate have an announcement
Update: Jon and Kate have officially announced their divorce.
There's a big Jon and Kate announcement on the way, according to current TLC promos, coming on this Monday's episode of Jon and Kate Plus 8, apparently replacing the planned "Mother's Day Episode" which was to feature Kate celebrating Mother's Day with brunch at her favorite restaurant, then packing for a book tour.
The new spot currently in rotation on TLC says that June 22nd will feature a one hour Jon and Kate special, and the captions had the phrases "A Family in Turmoil", "A Relationship at a Crossroads", "Where do they go from here?" and "Jon and Kate have an announcement."
The commercial also featured Kate's voice over saying:
Recently, we've made some life changing decisions. Decisions that will affect every member of our family, ones that we hope will bring each of us some peace.
The images shown made it a point of emphasizing distance between Jon and Kate.
So what's going on? Are they going to announce that the couple has separated? That the show is going on hiatus? It's hard for me to get too drawn in to the mystery, given that the "big announcement" touted for the Season 4 finale was pretty anti-climactic. And with the recent ratings slide, it's very probable that this is just another ploy to get viewers to tune in, so I'm keeping my cynicism in place.

TLC will do anything for ratings. Sure sounds like Jon and Kate are going to tell us that they will be divorcing. Or.... Kate gets her way and she gets some peace by finally getting rid of those two dogs that she hates!!LOL
Hopefully, they will get counseling and Kate will learn to control her tongue and inclination to jump the gun where Jon is concerned and ..Jon will "man up" and talk instead of acting out...but who knows...they are young and confronted with so MUCH so FAST...
on one of the sites someone is saying that Jon and his divorce lawyer want Kate out of the home. Jon wants the kids and the house. How SAD!!!

I remember when Kate wore sweats and a t-shirt, no makeup and was a complete B**** to Jon.

I hope somehow they find peace. I hate divorce but it looks like it's heading that way. When will Kate get the clue...it's time to close the curtains.
Well, if Jon gets the house and the kids, Kate will have plenty of time to be a celebrity -- morning shows where she slams octomom, speaking engagements, book signing, spa days and all the things that seem to have taken priority. She'll just have to coordinate her visitation to include the camera crews - 'cause she shows no signs of giving up the TLC cash cow, no matter how great the cost to her family.
I'm figuring the announcement is not a divorce but that Jon is moving (has moved) out. I've read too many stories that mention it. Not so much of a shocker as they haven't appeared on together on camera much this season.

Oh brother, how low will this network and these people stoop for ratings? They dumped the originally planned show because they knew the ratings would be even lower than last Monday's. Now they will hype this "special announcement" episode to try to get the big ratings again. Disgusting.
I believe a divorce announcment is coming.Jon's put up to much with her abuse,belittling"toys r us was stupid,i would of walked teh heck out an dleft her to walk home",shes always to perfect but ya know what shes not perfect and whats getting me is she's complaining about bad press ahhhh spanking a child in the open in frount of film crew where the press sees it,should of not happened, spanking a child should of been in the house or timed out,not spanked for blowing a whistle,come on.

I sure hope the announcement is going to be that they are quitting the show. I personally am sick of these two. She is not going to change, she just doesn't get it. Jon won't stop what he is doing either, so who wants to watch their personal tradgeties. I haven't watched them at all this new season, and I don't intend to watch this big announcement either. I'm waiting for the new couple with sextuplets. They seem to be two good people that get along and have good heads on their shoulders. Good luck to them. Hope she doesn't turn out like Kate, who can't stand her family, and thinks she is Miss Hollywood. Go away Kate.
Just another ratings ploy. I'll skip the drama and watch The Closer. Won't fool me twice.
I think Jon and Kate should not only watch but take some lessons from the show 18 kids and counting. The Duggars {the family on the show} have NO DEBT what so ever. Their house and cars are paid for, no credit card debt. They are financially free. They have the common sense to be able and willing to stop the show at anytime if it should become intrusive.
I hope people don't tune in on Monday. It's a big ratings ploy. The ratings are tanking every week, they are trying to get people to tune in.
This was slapped together in haste, so I'm thinking they have some major announcement after all of the police, cheating and other debacles.
Last night, when the spot aired, the word "family" in the "family in turmoil" slogan was spelled wrong (I'm a teacher, I spot those things) and instead said "A familly in turmoil"
These things are generally pretty well edited, so methinks it was a slapped together spot
Im hoping that they quit the show. I actually love the show but its gotten to a point of being rediculous and how is it affecting those children? Kate and Jon both need to step back and realize that enough is enough get back to livng a normal life. I hope they don't get divorced I think they need counseling especially Kate, I just feel if they got a divorce that would be horrible for those poor kids. Its hard enough to get a divorce when one child is concerned but can you imagine the impact of a divorce on 8 of them, plus lets face it this divorce would not be a quiet one the media would be all over it. Those kids would be thrust into all that and never be able to forget it.
Most likely, the announcement will be a legal separation between Jon and Kate... but, I still hope they do the right thing by unplug their show and work on their problem. This is sad and I miss old "J&K plus 8"
My guess is that it is to bring the ratings back up. After all, that is all TLC and the Gosselins seem to care about. I still will not watch it. It will be plastered all over the TV and news the next day anyway and I can avoid wasting an hour of my life watching this incredibly boring woman try to get us all ready for the Kate show. Thanks anyway. I hope it is something that will be in the best interests of the children. That would be refreshing.
If it wasn't a ratings ploy, they would just make the announcement. It would not have to be on their next show. But, I keep forgetting, TLC and the Gosselins think the general public is stupid! After all, they expected us to fall for the fake "still together" crap. All they need to do is make the announcement; TODAY, not the next show. HAHAH never happen.

I'm amused at all the talk of a "ratings slide" when there isn't really a slide at all. The ten billion viewers were just band-wagoners and curiosity-seekers that never watched the show before, and haven't since, hence the slide. The show never had huge ratings but does have a core fan base (myself included) that watches it week in and week out, regardless of the tabloids. As much as I hate to say it, they should pull the plug and work on their issues. The show has changed, and not for the better.
Good point, AAA. Last Monday's ratings, while way down from the premiere, were actually about the same as the average viewers of Season 4 episodes.
But I'm sure TLC is eager to recreate the ratings magic of earlier in the season.

The big announcement is someone cut Kate's hair, therefore all her shrewy whiny female dog powers have been destroy. Thus making it possilbe for Jon's family jewels to grow back giving him the power to file for divorce and take the kids with him.

My hope is that they will stop the tv show and start going back to church. There troubles started when they stopped.
There is nothing wrong with spanking a child when they need it. As long as it is done in the right way. Kate is a good mother.

I am sure the announcement is that they are divorcing but I hope it is that they are going to stop production of the show and get some marital and family counseling. I don't like what I see of Kate on TV, but I do think whether they stay married or not, she and Jon (and some of the kids) could use some counseling. Even if they are getting divorced, they need to make it a healthy divorce and cause the kids as little trauma as possible.
They are going on a trip to Korea. They recently got passports. No divorce announcement yet!

Who cares, they are doing it to regain the ratings they had the first show this season. Ratings have steadily declined after that episode. How much more bang can you get exploiting your marital problems? He would be crazy to stay on with all the problems and the raving critical loon he is a married to.
I must be the only one who does not care.I stopped watching this show two years ago when they started just going on field trips.I did not watch the big promo show and will not watch this one.I will just go online the next day and it will be all over the headlines and I dont have to give them ratings.
I am very disappointed in the Gosselins, especially Kate. I always thought she was rotten to Jon, and now she has become too big for her own good. I really want them to quit the show. Even though I want to watch the show on Monday to see the announcement, I no longer wish to contribute to its ratings, and I hope other people will also stop watching. We can catch up with the news on the internet without making them richer and them richer.

radaronline is reporting a divoce filing by Jon monday morning. So, lets see. And Kate can only have IUI, so the bodyguard must pay for it, but WHY would she want more kids.
Maybe it's that they are going to do counseling, think about it, they talked about doing it and then showing the end of their sessions on the show. I would think they'd go that route first, then later announce filing for the divorce, after all they still have a lot of episodes left to do on their contract, and not many people would pass up that kind of money, whether your having to fake it or not!
I had been watching the show regularly but I have stopped since seeing what the fame has done to that poor family. Kate is a decent mother but not a decent human being. My sister saw her out shopping last year and she wouldn't even stop to sign a picture because she is so stuck up now. I hope the show is ending because the poor Gosselin children are going to end up with so many mental problems and will need much therapy in the future. I agree with the others in saying that we should just stop watching the show. At least I know I have. I will be praying for the children.
I'm beliveing that maybe thier going for counseling, WHY would either of them, give up the cash cow they.. they have? AND why would they even be on the same piece of land, if they were divorcing? But, as always, we'll just have to wait and see.
I just think this whole thing is so sad. They seem to have lost what used to be most important to them, importance of family. Kate just seems to have lost interest in spending time with her husband or children. Time to get back to the basics and back to what's important. I pray that they will get back to realizing what is truly meaningful.
I Do not think that either of them deserve each other. she needs to be with a man who is as big a bully as she is, and Jon needs to be with somebody that can teach him what a backbone is. It would be sad if they diviorced, only because the family will be split. However, I do not agree with parents hating each other while trying to show love to their children. They should have never gone beyond 3 seasons.

Imagine keeping up with the scrutiny of being on television every week and having the nation watching you. I would want my house to look nice, my children to be well behaved and look nice. The things my husband does that annoy me would annoy me even more knowing they are on national television. Imagine the STRESS that would put on you and the whole family! I have a 2 y.o. who is crazy and I loose it sometimes. I can't imagine 8 children and having to maintain an image no one could scrutinize.
Yes, they are doing the show for financial reasons and they signed a 5 year contract. Good or bad, they contractually have to do 5 seasons! That sucks when your entire world is falling apart. I don't put too much stock in the rumors, but they are obviously dealing with issues. Let's keep our opinions in perspective and have some empathy.
I truly hope they can find some peace and remember what is important in life. Keep in mind, finding a way to provide for your family IS important too.
Who would announce their divorce on cable TV. I just Hope that they are quiting the show, and work on their "real' lives.
I think the show went downhill when they have these "staged" events, like Emeril coming to their house, and the OCC guys coming over.
The show is no longer about raising 8kids, it's about their new celebrity status... it's awful

For the recorded a swatt on the butt doesn't hurt a child. There is a difference between correcting and beating your kids. Maybe if people would correct their kids things would be alot better.
