For many, Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, otherwise known as Blessed (and soon to be saint) Pope John XXIII, is a symbol of the hijacked and distorted 'Spirit' of Vatican II; a 'Spirit' certainly not heavenly. For this 'Spirit,' to this very day, has led many astray in dangerous progressive perversions of truth such as abortion, gay marriage, the weakening of the traditional family, and the watering down of Catholicism through outright lies, media and Hollywood propaganda, and the disintegration of Catholic education--through the trojan-horse effect of progressive minded Catholic educators. A case in point is the train wreck in the Diocese of Venice in Florida, otherwise known as the Rice School for Pastoral ministry. Our blessed Pope is also the poster child for inclusive and pacifist Catholicism--ever seeking to solve the world's problems through a 'kumbaya' utopian social justice--even though the gospel message holds disdain for this vision.
But the jolly fat man was really a faithful, spiritual warrior!
For Angelo grew up in a poor home in Italy, served as a stretcher bearer during World War I, and risked his neck saving Jews during the Holocaust. Except for his heart, this was no soft man. And we must be the same.
"Let all who dwell in the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming; Yes, it is near, a day of darkness and of gloom...Like dawn spreading over the mountains, a people numerous and mighty! Their like has not been from of old, nor will it be after them, even to the years of distant generations." Joel 1:13-15; 2:1-2
For the war is over but the battle still ensues. But if you paid close attention you wouldn't know that, as far too many Catholics live in a state of pacifying joy, all too comfy with the world. Shocking, but the Holy Trinity is not a communion of Hare Krishna's or Buddhist monks, but a fire of Love seeking to burn all that is not Love out of existence. And the devil, and demons, and all that is evil is but the icy chill of nothingness which pervades God's Creation, through the free willed sins of the human person, seeking to cool down, and eventually freeze, the burning love placed in the heart of the disciple of Christ in the Holy Spirit. But lukewarm, all too many of us are. Lukewarm in support of Pro-Choice politicians. Lukewarm in coziness with a decadent and over-sexualized society. Lukewarm in acceptance of an anti-Catholic, secular-progressive social mindset.
Lukewarm on the way to frozen from God.
"You rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; their name you blotted out forever and ever." Psalm 9:2-3, 6, 16, 8-9
Worse than the caricature progressives give Blessed Pope John XXIII, is the false caricature they give to our Lord. For them, Jesus was a jolly metrosexual hippy pacifist, right out of central casting for 'Jesus Christ Superstar,' who never crushed 'a bruised reed, or put out a flickering flame,' nor put up much of a fight on the Way to the Cross. But how wrong they are! For Jesus was a Warrior King in witnessing to the Kingdom of God--radical, honest, compassionate--who courageously witnessed to the Truth to the very last drop of His Precious Blood, spilled by a lance to give birth to the Church and save the world.
And this Warrior said:
"But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him, he takes away the armor on which he relied and distributes the spoils. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters." Luke 11:15-26
Therefore, we must wake up from this lukewarm nap and realize that we are in a full fledged war with 'principalities and powers,' and if we don't know it already, without Jesus at the center of our lives or, better yet, without our hearts and minds in the center of Jesus in the Eucharistic Life, we WILL be overcome by the not so 'stronger' man. For Jesus is truly the Stronger man; stronger than any worldly and diabolical spirit. In turn, we, men and women infused with the Life of the Holy Trinity, in Communion with Jesus in the Eucharist, are not passive to the spiritual war within us, and around us, but are transformed into the mighty host of Yahweh, God of heaven and earth. And truth be told, either we succumb to the not so 'stronger man' in evil and worldly spirits or to the Stronger Man in Christ the Redeemer, through His Cross and Resurrection.
And this is the Jesus-Beelzebul decision that confronts us. Whose side will we fight for?
