Almost exactly a year after last September’s appearance, the Jeffrey Chin Trio, with Chin on piano backed up by Sam Bevan on bass and Billy Johnson on drums, will return to the Cadillac Hotel to give the text free one-hour jazz concert there. Chin came to jazz after having trained as a classical pianist; and, since that transition, he has performed with artists such as Chris Isaak, Teddy Pendergrass, Ray Charles, and Dolly Parton. As in the past, his trio will be joined by vocalist Margo LeDuc in a program of songs by Al Green, The Spinners, Carole King, Hall & Oates, and Bread.
This performance will take place in the lobby of the Cadillac Hotel (380 Eddy Street at the corner of Leavenworth Street) on Friday, September 13, at 12:30 p.m. Chin will perform with on the hotel’s meticulously restored 1884 Steinway Model D concert grand. With the partial support of the North of Market/Tenderloin Community Benefit District, this concert is offered free of charge by the hotel as a gift to the people of the Tenderloin. The Cadillac calls itself “The House of Welcome Since 1907;” and all are definitely welcome to the free jazz opportunity.
