A client sent me a fake "phishing" email today from what appeared to be the IRS. It was a phishing email aka spam whose sole purpose is to get you to render confidential information about yourself.
Protect your personal information! The IRS does not initiate taxpayer communications through email.
If you receive a suspicious email from the IRS forward it immediately to phishing@irs.gov so they can investigate the source of the email. Also, contact your CPA if you have any questions on what you should do.
