While it is not the most feature-rich application on the app store, Flickr finally has a native app on the iPhone. And it is about time.
The iPhone Flickr application is still a little rough around the edges. For example, there is no easy way to actually download pictures, which seems like it would be a no-brainer to include. Though you can get a photo onto your iPhone by emailing it to yourself and downloading it through the email, a rather awkward work around for a missing feature. There is also no way to modify the copyright, so if you want to change the permissions to an Attribution Non-Commercial Share Alike Creative Commons license, you'll have to go to the Flickr website.
But the iPhone Flickr app does its job. You can easily snap photos, upload them to Flickr, tag them with a location, add comments and descriptions, put them in a custom album and designate whether they or not they can be viewed by the public. The interface isn't quite as sweet as the new Facebook app's interface, but it does the job.
And, of course, you aren't regulated to just organizing your own photos. The app comes with a contact list similar to the iPhone's own contacts where you can quickly find a friend or family member's picture. You can also search for images and the results will be displayed on a wall of thumbnail pics.
Perhaps the neatest thing about the Flickr app is the slideshow when it first pops up on your screen. It draws random pictures from your friends and contacts to create a flowing slideshow that can be quite mesmerizing.
