The commercial music industry has a lot of awards shows. From the Grammy's to the VH1 Do Something Awards, there is practically one awards show per letter of the alphabet. An awards show that is not produced in the commercial music industry is The Independent Music Network Awards.
The Independent Music Network was started to provide an opportunity for musicians to have their music heard by the public. Their website states,
It is our goal to help “level the playing field” by getting the best independent artists, bands and their product out to the entire music world.
The commercial music industry makes decisions based upon what sells rather than the art form or what fans truly want to hear. The Independent Music Network is set to change how fans and musicians interact through music.
Nominations for the The Independent Music Network Awards are in and have both country as well as mainstream music. The nominations will continue to be based upon fans votes, radio polls and IMN Editors until the show date. The awards show is slated for January 17, 2013 live on U-Stream Television beginning at 6:00 p.m. (PST). While most of the nominees may not be names commercial music fans will recognize, this is an excellent opportunity for the current status quo in the music industry to be changed.
For music lovers who are tired of the same old music on the radio, take the opportunity to move over to The Independent Music Network and start voting for your favorites. For musicians interested in being heard, submit your material. Change cannot happen while being idle. The only way change can come is if both fans and musicians take steps to alter the way in which music gets heard. The Independent Music Network is one of those avenues.
