The inaugural Waukeye Music Festival takes place on July 19 in Waukee

The Metro has a new music festival. This Saturday marks the beginning of the Waukeye Music Festival in Waukee. The festival, put together by two Metro area live music fans, will take place at the 42-acre, privately-owned Hawkeye Antique Acres (33240 Ute Avenue just outside of Waukee) on July 19 from 11 a.m. until 1:35 a.m. the following morning. The festival will include live performances by 13 bands (plus solo musicians during the set-up times between sets), as well as a snack shack with food and beverages, merchandise vendors, body painting, a massage booth, camping, and more. Gates for the event will open at 10 a.m. Tickets for the festival are $20 in advance through Tikly and $25 at the gate. That price includes an option for tent camping for those who wish to spend the night after the show, and there will be community fire pits and showers available for campers. Campers must check out by noon on Sunday, July 20. This will be an all ages, family friendly event.

The Waukeye Music Festival will debut on July 19.
Waukeye Music Festival

Headlining the inaugural Waukeye Music Festival will be The Hooten Hallers. The Columbia, Missouri hillbilly rock/blues/soul trio was just in Iowa two weeks ago to play Day 1 of the 80/35 Music Festival. The Hooten Hallers have released a live album, two standard studio albums, and two more live in studio albums, as well as a number of live bootlegs. Their most recent live in studio effort, entitled Chillicothe Fireball, came out last November and incorporates baritone, tuba, bass saxophone, piano, and pedal steel into the band's hillbilly soul sound. Check out music from the new album in the nearby video.
