There are many things in store for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film studio is almost through it second phase of films; which continues this summer with Guardians of the Galaxy and concludes with Avengers: Age of Ultron. While that is enough to keep any studio busy, Marvel looks ahead as they are underway setting up their next set of films. Both Ant-Man and Captain America 3 are confirmed for Phase 3. Yet there is another name that has been making headlines recently, and that is none other then the Sorcerer Supreme himself: Doctor Strange. The Master of the Mystic Arts has been long overdue for a film, and with Scott Dickerson directing and Jon Spaihts writing, it looks as though the good doctor is finally getting his film debut.
While the character may be unfamiliar to some moviegoers, it seems that Marvel Studio wants Doctor Strange to play an important role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a interview with Total Film, President of Marvel Studios Kevin Fiege discuss a number of future films; such as Ant-Man and a possible sequel to Guardians of the Galaxy. Along with those two topics was none other then Doctor Strange. Fiege talk about his excitement of bringing the Sorcerer Supreme to the silver screen, as well as why having Strange among the likes of Iron Man and Captain America is important.
"[W]e think we'll be casting probably in the next month or two," he says, "and announcing an actor, and then we get into production in the spring of next year... Strange is very, very important, not just because it's an amazing character study, and a journey of a man who's gone from this very arrogant surgeon to somebody who is quite zen and literally keeps all of reality together on a daily basis... [T]here's a whole other side of the Marvel comics, which is that supernatural side - the interdimensional side of the Marvel universe, and Doctor Strange is, I believe, our entry point into that other realm, which has dozens of characters and storylines all of its own."
It is no doubt that the introduction of Doctor Strange will bring something different to the MCU. Much like Guardians of the Galaxy, this upcoming film could open new possibilities for Marvel Studios. While Doctor Strange will take Marvel into the world of magic, there could be another role for the sorcerer to play. This is pure speculation but it is possible that Doctor Strange could play a role in the upcoming Avengers 3. If the third installment of the Avengesr goes down the road that everyone expect it to, which is Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet, then it is very likely that Doctor Strange could be a part of that film. That is of course if the third Avenger film features the Mad Titan, and if Doctor Strange is even a part of Phase 3.
