The pineal gland is a tiny, pinecone-shaped endocrine gland located in the center of the brain between the two hemispheres. Often referred to as our third eye, it controls various bio-rhythms of the body. Working in conjunction with the hypothalamus gland, it regulates the body’s desire for food, drink and sex. It also controls our biological clock, thus it largely determines how quickly or how slowly we age. This gland is also responsible for the production of melatonin, a hormone that greatly influences our sleep-wake cycles. Additionally, those with psychic abilities are thought to have extremely well-functioning pineal glands. Based on this information, it would seem only natural that we would all want healthy pineal glands.
Unfortunately, as we age the pineal gland tends to shrink. Experts have discovered that this gland starts out much larger in children, shrinks at puberty and its size is greatly diminished in the elderly. While the natural shrinking of the pineal gland may or may not be avoidable (there is conflicting expert opinion on this), the greater threat to the health of this gland is calcification.
Calcification of the pineal gland is caused by the following:
- Ingestion of fluoride. Whether through our toothpaste or our tap water, fluoride is the most common cause of pineal gland calcification. Although largely touted as a deterrent to cavities, the health risks involved with fluoride far out-weigh the perceived benefits.
- Mercury. Mercury is a highly poisonous metal and should be avoided as much as possible. Besides being commonly used as tooth fillings, it is present in much of our fish supply as well as many vaccines.
- Sugar, caffeine, alcohol and tobacco. The more you eliminate this from your diet/lifestyle, the more energy you’ll have and the better you’ll feel. Plus, you’ll be helping to decalcify your pineal gland.
- Pesticides. This makes it even more advisable to consume organic foods as much as possible.
The bottom line is this: The healthier your pineal gland is the more beneficial it will be to your physical, emotional and spiritual health.
