Sleeping is our body’s way of saying that we need to start replenishing lost energy and need to rest our tired body from a day of hard work. As for children, sleeping is a way of resting their bodies not only to replenish energy, but also to help them grow stronger and healthier.
However, even in our child’s sleep it is still our responsibility as parents to ensure that they are as safe as they can be since there are still dangers lurking when they are asleep like falling off the bed accidentally. Luckily, this can be prevented by using bed rails.
Bed rails are accessories that can be fixed permanently or temporarily in the bed frame to ensure that our children are safe even when they are sleeping. There are two major kinds of bed rails: bed rails for kids and adult bed rails. Bed rails for children may come in many shapes and forms. There are bed rails made of wood, metal, net, plastic, or inflatables.
There are also those that are permanently or temporarily fixed in their bed frame and there are also those that can be put away with ease like inflatable bed rails. Different bed rails are suggested depending on the child’s general behavior, their age, and the types of bed they use.
Wooden or Metal Bed Rails
These bed rails are often used for very young children. These children can be those whose ages are from one month old up to the time that they can climb up and down a bed. These may be fixed on the bed frame especially if it is going to be used for a long time. Usually, these are also the ones used if the children’s beds are the bunk bed types, loft beds, and captain’s beds.
These bed rails are also the sturdiest in the bunch so you can be assured that your child is safe even when you are doing household chores. Children in this age range cannot easily break these and the strength of these bed rails can tolerate children who tend to destroy things especially when they are agitated. Alternatively, they can also be used by older children if they have beds that are high off the ground like loft beds.
Plastic Bed Rails, Net Bed Rails, and Inflatable Bed Rails
These bed rails are more often temporarily fixed on the child’s bed frame. These bed frames are not as sturdy as the wood or metal-made bed rails for kids. These bed rails are suited for children who are being trained to limit their movements while sleeping so they can avoid accidental falls.
These are also suited to be used when a child is sick and may not have enough strength to control their movements. These are not suited for younger children as the bed rails may easily break with weight or force and may just do more harm than good.
Bed rails are one of the best means of keeping our children safe when they are sleeping. We will not be able to watch them 24/7 since we would also need to sleep and rest, but these bed rails will save our day by ensuring that our children will not be hurting themselves through falls while they sleep.
