The Implosion of America

Dr. Charles Stanley, Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, Atlanta and best-selling author, wrote a book, entitled, “Turning the Tide,” a book which offered hope in America if we would just turn back to God. The book was an exhortation on how America was at a crossroads and that if we did not, as a nation, return to God that we would continue to suffer the consequences of the continued downward spiral.
Dr. Robert Jeffries, the senior pastor of First Baptist Church, Dallas, best-selling author, radio host, and an outspoken voice on Christianity and politics, spoke at the annual Christ in Prophecy, Living on Borrowed Time Convention back in November, 2013. He began with these words, “I believe the collapse of America is inevitable.”
What he had to say, was not only compelling, but an exhortation to Christians to be the salt that we are called to be. He explained that salt was used as a preservative, and while it did not keep meat from spoiling, it delayed the inevitable, giving it longer shelf life.
He gave as an example of when they needed to tear down some buildings in order to build a new one in the Dallas metroplex area, they used an implosion method. Dynamite was to be set off at the key foundation points of the buildings. A pause would ensue, and then the buildings would collapse. It happened exactly as planned, but not before the awaited pause caused concern that nothing was going to happen. And then without warning, the complete collapse occurred abruptly as promised. That illustration was the perfect ground work for his initial statement and its clarification.
Many probably don’t remember what Russian Soviet premier stated. From an address to Western Ambassadors at the Polish embassy in Moscow on November 18, 1956, Nikita Kruschev predicted, “We will take America without firing a shot…….We will BURY YOU! We can’t expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism. We do not have to invade the United States; we will destroy you from within.”
Implosions are sudden, dramatic; they begin with a series of unrelated explosions, followed by a pause, and then a sudden collapse. In the past fifty years the Supreme Court has made three explosive decisions that have weakened the moral, social structure and foundation of our country so much that the collapse of the United States is certain. We are basically living in the pause between the explosion and the implosion.
Explosion Number One: Engel vs. Vitale 1962 School Prayer Decision. A voluntary 22 word prayer was deemed unconstitutional. Many other decisions were sprung from that decision, demonstrating government’s hostility, towards religion, specifically the Christian religion, instead of neutrality.
That explosion made way for many other cases that would follow, including the removal of the Ten Commandments from the public school systems, specifically in Kentucky first. In 1980, the Supreme Court’s ruling was, “If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments have any effect at all, it will induce the children to read, meditate upon, perhaps venerate, and obey the commandments. This is not a permissible state objective under the establishment clause of the first amendment.” So, what they were saying was that children might read, meditate on, perhaps venerate and obey such commands as, “thou shalt not steal or thou shalt not kill,” and that is unconstitutional?
Seventeen years later in Paducah, KY, a fourteen year old gunman walked up to a group of students praying and opened fire on them, seriously wounding five students and killing three. The words, “Thou shalt not kill,” was and is forbidden from being displayed in many public schools.
118 years earlier, in the case of Vidal vs. Girard’s executors the Supreme Court had ruled, “Why may not the Bible, especially the New Testament, without note or comment, be read and taught as Divine Revelation, in the school, its general precept expounded, its evidence explained, and its glorious principles of morality inculcated? Where can the purest principles of morality be learned so clearly or perfectly as from the New Testament?”
The public school campuses have become slaughterhouses at the hand of gunmen, and most recently the stabbing at a Murrysville, PN School on Tuesday. The suspect had what some describe as, “A blank expression,” as he viciously stabbed 19 students and a police officer before being tackled by the assistant principal.
The first amendment has been twisted to somehow say what it was never intended to say: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” How did we get freedom from religion from that?
Explosion Number Two: Roe vs. Wade in 1973, Abortion Decision, of which has resulted in the murder of 50 million babies. The “right to choose,” should be correctly stated as the “right to choose to murder the unborn.” The murder of these children has not only been a moral issue, but an economic one. Had the aborted been allowed to live, they would no doubt have increased our NGP and contributed to the failing Social Security and Medicare programs. Every nation that has slaughtered their children has received punishment, just recall Nazi Germany.
Explosion Number Three: Lawrence and Garner vs. Texas in 2003, the Homosexual Decision that struck down the anti sodomy laws that had been in place. That decision continues to have a domino effect on what is currently taking place. Back in November, 2013, a part of DOMA was struck down. For over two hundred years, the judiciary system understood that what constitutes marriage is the relationship between a man and a woman and is the bedrock of society.
Many Christians know and understand that Jesus is coming soon. But in the meantime, we are the salt of the earth, according to the words of Jesus, “You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has become tasteless, how will it be made salty again? It is good for nothing, anymore but to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.” Matthew 5:13
We may not be able to stop the judgment of God on our nation, but as our predecessors before us, we can certainly delay it. We can speak and stand up for righteousness, even in politics. We are all called to be the salt of the earth.
