The online photo-sharing app, Instagram, continues to exponentially grow in the number users. Despite a hiccup recently with its terms of service the user activity has skyrocketed. The latest infographic released a day ago by Visual.ly confirms the social network is a potential platform for marketers to discover new clients.
The metrics are astronomical with number of photos uploaded, daily activity, photos liked, etc. For example, Instagram users produce 575 Likes and 81 comments every second. In addition, more than 800,000 photos were uploaded by users for Hurricane Sandy utilizing hashtag #Sandy.
Elsewhere in a report by Allinstagram.com there are 8500 Likes Per Second and 1000 Comments Per Second. Impressive activity nonetheless, but let us remember the positive symbiotic relationship with its parent company Facebook.
“The State of Instagram, we discuss how people are using Instagram today. This will help marketers to convince their stakeholders (or themselves) that Instagram is the next place to start engaging new customers,” according to Visual.ly.
The website has racked a couple of milestones, which include surpassing Twitter’s daily users along with time spent on the website. Let us not forget though that President Barack Obama’s picture of him hugging Michelle Obama set company records for the microblogging website.
Metrics for Instagram
- 4 billion photos shared on Instagram since its initial launch
- 40 percent of brands have adopted the service for marketing purposes
- 20 percent of brands surveyed had 10,000 or more followers
- ComScore ranks Instagram at #50 and Alexa #47 respectively
- 40 million photos uploaded daily
- 90 million Monthly Active Users (MAU)
Instagram adoption for marketers should be a no brainer. On the social sphere most users interact with greater frequency with photos in comparison to any other item posted. The simplicity of its mobile app on the iPhone and Android is part of the story. The functionality, the editing features and instantaneous uploading of a photograph is a valuable asset for Instagram.
The competition is fierce today in the world of social networking. The viral impact can be beneficial or detrimental, but how marketers gain the attention of users with their products with photos is a matter of social networking transparency.
