While Grand Theft Auto V is set to release next week, the game’s ambitious multiplayer mode won’t launch until Oct 1. The idea behind GTA Online, however, has been on developer Rockstar Games’ mind for the past decade as reported by GamingBolt on Sept 11. The creators of the popular open-world franchise have stated that the elements that they will finally be able to implement within GTA 5’s multiplayer mode have been part of a game that the developer has desired to make ever since they started work on GTA 3.
The report revealed that Rockstar North President Leslie Benzies has confirmed that a thriving online community that plays like a single player experience is a hope that has long been held for the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The timeline of GTA Online take place after the events of Grand theft Auto V’s single player storyline. Players will take on the role of their multiplayer character as they have just flown into Los Santos. Gamers will then choose their character’s heredity, lifestyle, and gender. These choices will determine starting abilities and appearance which can later be altered to some degree through play.
Ten years worth of Grand Theft Auto games have come and gone since Rockstar Games first decided that they wanted to create the game that would ultimately become GTA Online. Grand Theft Auto V launches on Sept 17 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, however, fans will have to wait until Oct 1 for GTA Online to become available as free update.
