17 of his books made it to number 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Former Maryland insurance salesman turned author, Tom Clancy died October 1, 2013 at the age of 66 in Baltimore. The cause of death has not yet been announced.

A number of Clancy's books, including "The Hunt For Red October" and "Clear And Present Danger," were turned into movies.
Today on Facebook, General Colin L. Powell posted that he lost a dear friend and wrote that Tom Clancy captivated millions of people around the world with the exploits of CIA agent Jack Ryan. Powell said he would miss him and offered condolences to his family.
