President Snow is having quite the challenging year, if the latest “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1” movie posters and trailer have anything to say about it. In these latest photos from Lionsgate Entertainment regarding the upcoming dystopian adaptation, Gale Hawthorn (played by Liam Hemsworth) gets his wings, so to speak, with the Mockingjay symbol behind him. He and other anti-Capitol figures (like Cressida, played by Natalie Dormer) are prominently featured as the new rebels — with — a cause. MTV News shares these breathtaking looks at the third installment to “The Hunger Games” film franchise this Wednesday, August 27, 2014, along with some additional information about the upcoming movie.
As part of the ongoing process of marketing the hotly anticipated first half of the “Mockingjay” finale, it seems that Jennifer Lawrence’s iconic heroine Katniss Everdeen isn’t the only one with the spotlight on her this time around. Gale Hawthorne, Cressida, and other rebels taking part in the revolution against the Capitol are ready to take flight into the metaphorical battle arena. These “Rebel Warriors” photos and posters offer a hint for readers of the original book trilogy to the militaristic and violent end in store for the “The Hunger Games” world of Panem.
As provided by The Wired in a brief synopsis, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1” movie will feature Katniss Everdeen shortly after her dramatic rescue from the clock-like arena of “Catching Fire.” Although she managed to escape with Finnick Odair, her close friend and love interest Peeta Mellark was left behind. Now (spoilers ahead, so please be aware), Katniss discovers that the mysterious District 13 was not utterly destroyed, as an underground rebel society has persisted as part of a major revolt — a veritable gathering storm.
Although a majority of these characters are newcomers to the film franchise aside from Gale, the posters showcasing these rebels demonstrate the tenacity and determination behind their cause. Alongside the soon-arriving documentary film director Cressida, other figures with a serious angst against the Capitol include Boggs, Castor, Pollux, and Messalla. These characters will be more deeply explored in the coming flicks.
Following starkly white and perilously dangerous images / trailers of President Snow presenting the “Heroes” of Panem (a brainwashed Peeta and fellow tribute Johanna), these dark posters with the rebels bearing crossbows, guns and cameras with the Mockingjay wings spread behind them reveal both sides of the epic confrontation. It seems that Lionsgate’s current movie marketing strategy for the first installment of the YA literature hit is to show that these rebels mean business. From hints of vandalism to the seeping power of the Capitol finally changing control, Katniss has effectively begun a true firestorm of change.
Are you looking forward to the next “The Hunger Games” film? Fire is indeed catching among fans and film goers alike, with the film itself setting theaters across the nation aflame this November 21, 2014. It has been confirmed by various sources that “Mockingjay — Part 2” will premiere sometime around November next year, in 2015. Let the (end of) the games begin.
