'The Hunger Games Adventures' to launch on same day as film

Fans of The Hunger Games have more than a movie to anticipate…

Yesterday, Lionsgate and Funtactix announced the upcoming launch of The Hunger Games Adventures – a social game based on Connecticut author Suzanne Collins’ bestselling trilogy.

The Hunger Games Adventures will share a release date – March 23, 2012 – with the much anticipated film adaption of the first book in the trilogy.  This companion piece will allow players to journey into the world, and encounter its characters, first introduced in Collins’ books in a way that is meant to meaningfully enhance the movie viewing experience.

THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES is an adventure-based social game where fans can explore the world of Panem - the setting for The Hunger Games trilogy. Players will explore Panem and complete missions that will take them to each of the Districts and the Capitol where they will interact with the familiar characters from the book. With each mission they complete, they will advance their own storyline within the world. As the official game of the series, THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES will be the first place fans can see the official map of Panem, and how the districts are laid out. Details for the Map of Panem will be rolled out in the game with a steady stream of chapter expansions as the game, and the world, reveals itself over time

Sam Glassenberg, CEO of Funtactix, noted, "Suzanne Collins' amazing novel delivers an unbelievably detailed world that completely immerses the reader. Fans want to enter this world, interact with the characters and truly become a part of it. That is the magic that THE HUNGER GAMES ADVENTURES will provide to the millions of people who love the book series and watch the movie."

The Hunger Games trilogy came to a close with Mockingjay, which topped all major US bestseller lists upon its release in 2010 and sold more than 450,000 copies in its first week.  The first two books, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, were both New York Times bestsellers.  Combined, the three titles have sold more than 23.5 million copies domestically and won numerous literary awards and accolades.

Suzanne Collins had a successful career writing for children’s television (Clarissa Explains It All, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo) before turning her attention to novels.  Her five-book series for middle-grade readers, The Underland Chronicles, reached New York Times bestseller status and marked her emergence in the genre.  With The Hunger Games trilogy, Collins has continued to explore the effects of war and violence on those coming of age.
