I happen to be a huge fan of The Hummus & Pita Co., so imagine my excitement when I found out they were expanding.
Owners of the restaurant, Janice Axelrod and David Pesso, recently announced that the Mediterranean restaurant signed a 15-year lease for a three story building at 616 8th Avenue in Manhattan as of October 2014. The third floor will serve as their headquarters while the first two floors – all 1,250 square feet – will be dining areas.
With the increased population of Mediterranean food, especially over the past few years, The Hummus & Pita Co. has chosen an absolutely ideal location – right across the street from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. As of now, it's a bit inconvenient for me to get to their current locations, but once they open in their new building, I'll definitely be going there a lot more, and many others I know have said the same. One can only imagine just how many tourists and commuters will be stopping in as well.
Of the expansion, Pesso said, “The Hummus & Pita Co. brand is ripe for expansion from coast to coast. Consumers are searching for wholesome, fresh and healthy, accessible dining options. Today. Mediterranean inspired cuisine is becoming increasingly more in demand, it is taking off in a big way as the diet of choice, and we want to be able to continue to serve the growing number of customers both in New York City as well as across the United States.”
Just a few of the reasons I like the restaurant so much is that you can customize your dishes, the food tastes fresh, it fills you up, and the prices are low. I've also never felt weighed down after eating there like I have after dining at several other restaurants.
The Hummus & Pita Co. currently has three locations – 585 6th Avenue, 79 Chambers Street, and 815 Broadway.
