The human side of healthcare

The healthcare industry has and will always be a very profitable industry, but for those who decide to take on the task of being a physician, nurse, or any number of other related careers, be aware that stress will threaten to consume you day-in and day-out. If your primary reason for pursuing one of these careers is for money, be prepared for some serious doubt down the road.

If you make compassion and satisfaction that comes from helping others a priority in your work, you will most certainly find something to love in the healthcare field. In fact, most nurses say that the number one reason why they chose their career was to care for and make a genuine difference in the lives of patients.

Hospitals are big business, and the vast numbers of patients that come and go make it incredibly difficult for physicians and nurses to devote necessary amounts of time to each patient. However, nurses are finding a few ways to make it work. Care boards are just one way through which nurses are familiarizing themselves with patients' needs. Patients write down what’s important to them each day they’re in the hospital, and nurses are able to keep these notes in mind when making daily visits.
