The human body: Strong evidence for the existence of God

It is amazing that numerous people ridicule Christians for their “superstitious” beliefs in an almighty God. First of all, the belief in such a God is well founded with proofs of such in every way one turns. Yet those who refuse to accept the massive amount of evidence for His existence, will accept the most ridiculous fantasies to try and disprove that He exists. The fact that many of the ancients believed the earth was flat was based upon what they could see and they had nothing to prove otherwise at the time. But for man, in this age, to accept the fantasy first produced by a science fiction fantasy writer, that a tiny amount of nothing became so compacted that it exploded and created all these innumerable bodies contained in the cosmos, has to be the height of folly.

Few people have ever studied the extreme complexity of the human body. And, this is only one of the countless features around us which are proclaimed to have only happened to occur through numerous tiny accidental changes over billions of years…from nothing, mind you. Let us take a look at some of the unbelievable features which the human body has.

Look what occurs in an average 24 day’s activity of a human body:

You will have utilized 7,000,000 brain cells. Your heart will have beaten 103,689 times. Your heart will have pumped blood for 68,000,000 miles. You will have spoken 48,000 words using 72 different muscles for each word. You will have inhaled 438 cubic feet of air, by breathing in 23,040 times. Your system will have produced100 billion red blood cells. You will have analyzed and processed billions of sensory signals.

Those stats are for only one day of an average person in average activity. There are others but those are good examples. Now check a few items, again on average, of this person per year:

You will shed and replace 40 pounds of skin. You will have walked the equivalent of 5 times around the equator of the earth. You will drink 12,000 gallons of water and your heart will have pumped 73 million gallons of blood. You will replace every atom which makes up your body, once each year. And here are more stats of notable significance.

Your blood travels through 60,000 miles of blood vessels in tubes that allow only one way flow. The blood has seven types of cells that are necessary to keep you alive.

One square inch on the back of your hand has nine feet of blood vessels, 600 pain sensors, 9000 nerve endings, 36 heat sensors and 75 pressure sensors and a total of 72 feet of nerve fibers.

Your 3 pound brain is 2.1 pounds of water, has about 100 billion cells each with up to 60,000 connections to other neurons for a total of 60 trillion connections that do not really touch but are separated by short spaces called synapses. Produces thousands of chemicals called neurotransmitters. It is 2% of the gray matter that uses 94% of the oxygen reaching the brain. Is bathed by a special fluid called cerebrospinal fluid, which is replaced every three hours. The brain produces electricity in the 5 to 50 millionth of a volt. It would take 60,000 humans to light a flashlight. Signals coming from over a million sense cells arrive at the rate of 2,000 per second.

The above statistics are taken from an article titled The Human Body: An Introduction by David Everson published in the Gospel Gazette, June 2000.

The inspired writers of the Bible were aware of these marvelous features of the human body as is obvious by their brief remarks in numerous locations. David expresses it well in Psalms 139:14.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
