Marvel's The Avengers literally made a lot of green to become the top-grossing movie of 2012, but there was no one greener than the Hulk, who has been rumored for some time now of starring his own movie, which includes the big screen adaptations of the comics Planet Hulk and World War Hulk.
However, Mark Ruffalo tweeted Thursday that tortured scientist Bruce Banner and his not-so-jolly green giant will return to The Avengers 2, which is slated for release in the summer of 2015. Ruffalo is the third actor to play Banner, whom you wouldn't like when he gets angry and turns into the Hulk.
Like Frank Castle/the Punisher and Ghost Rider, Bruce Banner/the Hulk is one of the most complex Marvel characters -- walking the line between hero and anti-hero, yet still struggling to break into Marvel's A-list. Director Ang Lee's Hulk in 2003 with Eric Bana failed to become a smash due to being dark and gloomy, but 2008's The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton earned better rave reviews and did well at the summer box office.
Still, the Hulk found greater success on the small screen with the television series starring the late Bill Bixby and Lou Ferringo that aired on CBS from 1977 to 1982; Disney XD's The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and this summer's upcoming Avengers Assemble and Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.
