When the temperature begins to rise each year, so do the careers of the talented actresses who appear in summer films. Since a huge amount of yearly ticket sales occur during the summer, any actor or actress who is lucky enough to get a meaty role in a big summer release will often find themselves at or near the top of the hot list. It is almost impossible to pick just one actress who is the hottest of the summer, but any of these three fantastic thespians could easily have an argument made in her favor.
Zoe Saldana has worked steadily in films since 2000 by taking supporting roles in films like "Center Stage" and "Crossroads" with Britney Spears. It wasn't until 2009 that she finally broke out and got the recognition she deserved, starring in both the megahit "Avatar" and the reboot of "Star Trek" from director J.J. Abrams. Now in 2013, she is reprising her role as the communications expert Uhura in the long-awaited sequel "Star Trek Into Darkness." She absolutely sizzled in the role, getting more screen time and better lines than she did in the first film. She also showed off her smarts by speaking in Klingon and got a chance to prove that she can hold her own in combat when she took on lead villain Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch).
Not only has she been one of the hottest actresses of the summer but she is also set to have a sizzling fall season as well. Before the year is up, she will appear in "Blood Ties" alongside an all-star cast that includes Oscar winner Marion Cottillard and Clive Owen. She will also be seen in the much-anticipated biopic about celebrated singer Nina Simone, tackling the part of the legendary crooner in a role that some say could earn her awards consideration next winter.
Like Saldana, Australian import Isla Fisher toiled for years in smaller roles before breaking out in 2005 in the raunchy hit comedy "Wedding Crashers." Since then, she has been getting increasingly bigger roles in a multitude of films, but this summer she has two of her biggest to date. First she starred in "The Great Gatsby," fellow Aussie Baz Luhrmann's take on the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. She played tragic housewife Myrtle Wilson, who is chewed up and spit out by the cruel Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton), with whom she has an affair. This is usually not a flashy role, but Fisher managed to nearly steal several of her scenes, which automatically qualifies her to be on the summer hot list. Then there is "Now You See Me," the unique drama that centers on illusions and magic. Even though she is the only female among the leads in this ensemble cast, she more than holds her own, even against tough competition from top-notch actors like Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, and Morgan Freeman. That isn't an easy feat to pull off, which is why Fisher more than deserves her spot on this list.
Finally, young actress Chloe Grace Moretz has slowly made a name for herself as a child actress with films like the vampire drama "Let Me In," making her into a force to be reckoned with. In 2010, she starred in the hit movie "Kick-Ass" as Hit Girl, who kicks butt just as well as the guys. This summer, she returns for the sequel "Kick-Ass 2," reprising her role and inspiring young girls everywhere to take martial arts and self-defense lessons. Though this is her only summer release, it is a scorching role that many young up-and-comers vied to get. The fact that Moretz stood out from the crowd and earned the role is no surprise, considering her prodigious talent. She just turned sixteen years old earlier this year, so to have a burgeoning career so young is impressive and earns her a spot on the hot list for summer 2013. Her career definitely seems to be on the increase. She will next star in the remake of the hit horror film "Carrie" based on the Stephen King novel, which will be released in October just in time for some Halloween frights. She has also finished the Lynn Shelton film "Laggies" with Keira Knightley and Sam Rockwell, which will be released in 2014. In addition, she has a whopping six more films that are either currently filming or in pre-production. With that many irons in the fire, it won't be a surprise if Moretz becomes a part of this same hit list next year as well.
