Saoirse Ronan said she wasn’t afraid of playing two characters in “The Host.” In fact, that’s the reason she took the role in the first place, she said.
“It was a challenge, but it was really the main draw for me to the project,” Ronan said during an interview with Celebuzz.com.
“The Host” is the story of an apocalyptic world in which parasitic aliens have begun to take over human minds. The aliens, called souls, erase the human’s memories.
Melanie plays the human role of Melanie and the soul role of Wanderer. During the film, Melanie fights back against the invading soul in hopes of saving the people she loves.
“It was a challenge, and I loved that I had to kind of build the characters from the ground up,” Ronan said during the interview with Celebuzz. “I guess the main challenge was trying to map out where physically Melanie started to come into play once her body had been taken over, because there’s time in the film where her will is so strong that she physically does take her body over again against Wanderer’s will.”
The movie, which is scheduled to be released on March 29, is based on the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer.
