Overlooking the 18th green of the iconic Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, the Hamilton Grand has been crowned with a new dome. Fabricated in authentic architectural style in Scotland, the dome replicates the original lead-clad timber frame, weighing 3.5 tons and true to the original structure, built in the early 1900s.
After the 255-year-old Royal and Ancient Golf Club's headquarters, the Grand is the most photographed building in St. Andrews, the "Home of Golf". The Kohler Company is currently transforming the building into 2, 3 and 4 bedroom luxury apartments and a new restaurant and bar that is likely to be a mecca for visiting golfers. Residents will enjoy memberships to The Duke’s St. Andrews golf course, and and award-winning Kohler Waters Spa.
Formerly known as the Grand Hotel, this was the first building in Scotland with pneumatic elevator and hot and cold water in every bathroom. WWII saw the Air Ministry of the United Kingdom requisition the hotel, using it for training headquarters for the Royal Air Force. And, after the war, the University of St Andrews operated the building as residence hall for 56 years.
The American-owned Kohler Company is the owner of the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World, which has 144 5-star-rated rooms bordering the 17th "Road Hole".
Kohler acquired the award-winning Old Course Hotel in 2004 and has since completed massive renovations and expansions, including new suites by star French designer Jacques Garcia, a state-of-the-art conference wing, and the Kohler Waters Spa, a member of the prestigious Leading Spas. The company also owns The Duke's St Andrews, which opened in 2006 following a transformation by American golf architect Tim Liddy, a protégé of Pete Dye. Kohler's home base in the U.S. is Destination Kohler in Wisconsin, comprised of the 5-star The American Club hotel, Kohler Waters Spa, and the Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits golf courses, which have hosted the U.S. Senior Open and twice the PGA Championship, most recently in 2010.
