On Dec. 16, Warner Bros. announced, via its Twitter feed, what fans of Middle Earth had long been waiting to hear – when the first trailer for Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will be released.
As Elijah Wood who will play Frodo Baggins, had suggested in November, the movie trailer for “The Hobbit” is scheduled to debut with the U.S. release of Steven Spielberg’s “The Adventures of Tintin.” That movie hits the big screen on Dec. 21, 2011.
Meanwhile, there’s every indication that “The Hobbit” trailer will make its online debut a day earlier. USA Today reported that Warner Bros. has also announced satellite feed of the trailer will go online on Dec. 20 and 21.
The 15-minute satellite feed for “The Hobbit” trailer will stream on Dec. 20 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, then again Dec. 21 at 9 a.m. ET/PT. USA Today provided no link to the feed; this article will be updated when that informaton becomes available.
Update, Dec. 19: The Warner Bros. Twitter feed confirmed the trailer will play on Dec. 20, at 10 p.m EST/7 p.m. PST. The Tweet included a link to The Hobbit Facebook page. As always, more information will be posted when it becomes available.

Based on the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is the first of two movies that serve as a prequel to “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. The movies will star many of the actors from Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings”: Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett and Christopher Lee. Martin Freeman will play the title role of Bilbo Baggins, and the new cast includes Richard Armitage and Graham McTavish.
“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will have its theatrical release Dec. 14, 2012. “The Hobbit: There and Back Again” will be released Dec. 13, 2013.
Pittsburgh movie fans interested in seeing in theatres “The Hobbit” trailer, then, should plan on seeing “The Adventures of Tintin.” The movie will play at the AMC Loews Waterfront 22, SouthSide Works Cinema and Waterworks Cinema 10. Look for locations and movie tickets available for online purchase at Fandango.
