According to Daily News on Oct. 1, the second part in a three part series of Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" reveals even more into the adventures of the dwarves and Bilbo Baggins as they delve further east towards Lonely Mountain as Thorin Oakenshield attempts to regain the throne as the king under the mountain.
However, opposition stands between Thorin and his friends and proves there are to be challenges ahead facing the party. It is already noticeable that mistrust ensues the Thorin as even he forgets Bilbo's place as a comrade, but more so as a mere bugler. One of the dwarf members attempts to keep Thorin's atrocious behavior in check.
Also, Ian McKellen reprises character as Gandalf as he suspiciously looks down upon Bilbo and attempts to revisit what he had discovered in the caves of the Misty Mountains. Baggins just simply acknowledged it as nothing tangible, but more so a personality improvement that would help him brave future encounters as Gandalf says he'll need such an upgrade in being fearless by Hobbit standards.
Glimpses of Smaug, as voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, give an ominous feel to Bilbo's encounter with the scaley, fire breathing beast. It is seen that Bilbo attempts to play upon the dragon's megalomania as he seeks the halfling out among the piles of gold.
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" opens in theaters Dec. 13.
